Hi I’m Sarah and in March 2011 I decided to set up my own business.
I come from a retail background having worked in my family’s antique business and I also spent some time working for Next Plc.
I fancied a new challenge and felt I was ready for a new venture in my life. I had always wanted to have my own shop, but wanted it to have something different from other gift shops out on the high street and online.
I have always found ‘words’ emotive and ‘letter fonts’ interesting and so the ‘The Alphabet Store’ was born.
Starting with a physical shop I noticed when customers visited the shop they would often smile, giggle and laugh out loud, some have even been known to cry when they have been moved by the words on a particular item.
An online store was the obvious next step so that I could offer the range of products to a wider audience. Our current ranges include letters as you would expect, picture and photo frames, greeting cards, wedding gifts, home gifts, stationery and home office items, candles and jewellery.
We have gifts for every possible occasion and special person in your life from christening to retirement, and from babies to great grandparents, we even have some for your furry friends.
Depending on your style we have them all covered from retro to vintage, shabby chic to classic to name but a few.
One of our most popular ranges is East of India, with their many emotive products we love this range and our customers do too.
Through the shop I support local charities. In November 2012 I joined the other independent shops in Leek to raise money for our preferred charity. To date we have supported Jo’s Dreams and Staffordshire First Responders. The shop has also raised money for The Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.
The Alphabet Store is located in Leek which is a small market town on the edge of the Peak District, with lots of fabulous independent shops it’s well worth a visit. Leek is a very dog friendly town and we have lots of doggies visiting our shop every week.
We are also very happy to be a part of ‘Totally Locally Leek’ and all of the regular events that they organise in Leek.
You can pick up a Totally Locally Leek Map in our shop to help guide you around all of the independent shops, cafes, restaurants and everything else Leek has to offer.
If you can’t get to visit us in person we hope that you find the website fun and easy to use.
Thanks for taking the time to read my story and I hope to see you soon.
